About Me & One Sweet Day

I originally began trading as Sweet Annalise in March 2009, before rebranding the business One Sweet Day in 2012 and all this time I have been baking delicious (hopefully) cakes, cookies and brownies!

Initially, One Sweet Day was just a small selection of gorgeous dessert cupcakes – developed from the fairy cake recipes I made with my Grandma and Mum as a child. I began as a part time business, alongside a full-time job, which was in retail head office and then, later on, alongside having my babies.

In the early years, regular customers requested birthday cakes and celebration cakes as they enjoyed the flavour of my cupcakes, so I tentatively developed my cake decorating skills in order to meet this demand, I constantly aimed to evolve and improve. Striving to be the best that I could be within a very competitive market.

In January 2018, I (One Sweet Day) took over and absorbed the very well established Chorley town centre celebration cake business ‘Cakes by Ruth’. It wasn’t always easy with 2 very young children in tow, but we did well. My team (my cake family) and I grew in confidence and we established a really good, loyal customer base.

​In 2023, I took the decision to close the shop/stall and try and make life a little easier for myself and focus fully on my children and their education and home life – eventually relocating back to my home town (near Barnsley).

After taking time to establish a gentler home routine, and with a recent ADHD diagnosis under my belt, I am feeling I need to start working again, focusing on what I love (meeting, teaching and helping people initially), and so in Autumn 2025 I am offering a number of cake decorating classes throughout the Barnsley borough.
